0201 - LIGHT BREEZE

Houses

Year of construction : 2001

Location : Spain

Floor area : 700m2

RENOVATION - TRANSFORMATION The structure of this long-neglected house was purchased by a British couple. They entrusted architect Bruno Erpicum with the renovation and transformation of the building. Designer Maria Rodriguez Carreno took care of the interior, masterfully succeeding in creating a home full of colour and light. The circulation areas and the rooms are grouped around a central patio. The two lower floors are occupied by the reception rooms and completed with a shaded terrace and a large concrete pergola. The swimming pool is a link to the sea. The bedrooms are upstairs, each with its own terrace: these cubist spaces are a reference to the fincas of the past. The vertical circulation is contained in the tall section, which offers a view of the garden with its local vegetation. The way the ground lies made it possible to create a private terrace for each of the bedrooms. The terrace of the parents’ bedroom has panoramic view of the sea and, in the distance, the island of Formentera. The existing structure of the building made it possible to construct a shady concrete pergola above the terrace of the lower floor. The outdoor sitting room, with its three olive trees, is an invitation to take a siesta. The horizon swimming pool offers a unique view over the magnificent landscape. Red for the carbon canvas, blue for the walls of the central patio. A dining room has been created under the red canvas, with the hills as a backdrop. Stairs lead to the sitting room on the lower floor, via a series of double spaces. The kitchen has been built around the raised intermediate floor. A concrete claustra plays with the light and the differences in level. The bathroom, built of Zimbabwe granite, was designed by Maria Rodriguez Carreno. Photographer: Jean-Luc laloux.
